Our pigs have now moved on to another farm which can be found here, but you can still read all about them below:
Kune-Kunes (pronounced cooney-cooney) are a small pig that originate from New Zealand. They come in ginger, spotty, white and tri coloured. We keep a boar and two sows which we breed from. We have had about 2 litters a year from each pig with about 3-7 piglets in each litter. Kunes will eat a pot bellied mix which is high in fibre and this is what they need. Some kune kunes have tassles under their chin/neck, like a roll of skin in effect, which can just be seen on the pig in the foreground of the picture below.

This litter have just been weaned and are about 5 or 6 weeks old. They can be sold at about 9 weeks old.

Kunes are a hard pig and when breeding will farrow outside in an ark/shed with a bale of straw. There is no need for a heat lamp or assistance needed they usually are able to get on with it themselves, unlike commercial pigs today! Below is a small litter of 3 at about 2 weeks old feeding. Our biggest litter has been 7, but it has been known for a kune kune to have 10! But this is rare. An average litter would be 5.
